2016 Chinese Grand Prix Predictions

Round 3 of the 2016 FIA Formula 1 World Championship is the 12th race at the Shanghai International Circuit in China. Over the years this has been a track that Lewis Hamilton has excelled at. Yes, Rosberg took his first win here but Hamilton has wins from 2008, a classic from 2011, 2014 and last year also. He also could or should have won in 2007 and 2010, while taking pole position on 5 occasions. So lets get to my predictions!

Pole Position – Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton needs to have a complete weekend. His pole position lap in Bahrain was in the mould of Senna in that it was last gasp and had next to no margin for error, so I’m plumping for Lewis to get the job done on the Saturday. He does have a grid penalty for a gearbox change so he will have to start 6th. So Hamilton to be fastest on Saturday, but Rosberg will start from Pole on Sunday.

Race Winner – Nico Rosberg

I had originally written this before the gearbox penalty was announced and had plumped for Hamilton to return to winning ways. However, now with the penalty in effect, I’m now going to go for Rosberg to win from pole. The Mercedes car will be superior to the Ferrari and unless Merc make a mess on the strategy or a reliability failure, I can’t see Ferrari beating Mercedes in a straight fight for several races.

Podium – Rosberg – Hamilton – Ricciardo

I’m going for a surprise 3rd place with Danny Ric. Red Bull have looked strong and reliable. If Ferrari make a mess of things with either car, the Aussie will be there to gobble up the points that fall his way. A Champion in waiting.

Other predictions:

Both Force India’s to score points.

Esteban Gutierrez to finish.

Lewis Hamilton to make a decent start.
